Dubai: Starting August 1, Amer and Tasheel centres in Dubai have made arrangements to assist amnesty-seekers who wish to rectify their status and remain in the UAE.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) on Tuesday received a delegation from Amer and Tasheel at its headquarters in Jafiliya to discuss their roles in the process.

The three-month amnesty titled ‘Protect yourself by modifying your status’ that runs till October 31 allows illegal residents to leave the UAE without having to pay overstay fines, or getting a ban.

It also provides opportunities to overstayers who wish to legalise their residency status and stay in the UAE to work.

During the meeting, Major Salem Bin Ali, director of the Amer Client Happiness Department at GDRFA Dubai, reviewed the most important details of the amnesty and the mechanism to receive requests of violators to regularise their visa status through Dubai’s 43 Amer service centres, where more than 500 Emiratis work.

Maj Ali also stressed the importance of treating violators humanely and facilitating the procedures so they can enjoy a decent life in the country and do their bit to create a UAE community free of illegal residents.

Maj Ali appealed to violators to take advantage of this initiative by visiting any Amer or Tasheel centre with their passport and a copy of their new visa. The fee to rectify the visa status is Dh521.

Amnesty-seekers who already have a job offer or sponsor may modify their status on the spot. Those who have yet to find new employment may apply for a temporary six-month visa.

Amnesty-seekers in Dubai who plan to leave the country may visit the two amnesty tents for men and women in Al Aweer.
